Death and rebirth

It has been a long time since I did my first post on here. I thougth maybe I was just being silly at first posting to this. Letting my fears over ride what I feel my heart is telling me to do. Well that won't be the case anymore. I want to share what I learn as my journey continues in spiritual growth. Today at church our Pastor was talking about the meaning or reason for communion. Not only is it a time to remember Jesus's blood covenent but it is also a time to relect upon ourselves and why we are taking communion as stated in 1 Corinthians 11: 26-28. (26 For whenever you eat this bread and drink this cup, you proclaim the Lord's death until he comes.27 Therefore, whoever eats the bread or drinks the cup of the Lord in an unworthy manner will be guilty of sinning against the body and blood of the Lord.28 A man ought to examine himself before he eats of the bread and drinks of the cup) When we take communion we need to do it not for show but to repent and celebrate that Christ gave his life for us to free us from ours sins. While the preacher was preaching a thought came to my heart. Jesus died for us then he rose again. When he died and rose again  it sealed God's covenent to us. Why then can we not let the old us/me die so that we can live a new life in service to God. I am not talking about the physical death of the body but the death of the old ways you used to live your life. Letting go of the old desires and bad habits we have that do not serve God. Allowing for god's will to take over in our daily lives. Living eating breathing in the word of God.
Here is my prayer for today.
God let the old me die so that I can live a new life in service to you. let your will be done in my life from this day forward. Help me to live and breath the life you want for me.  Amen
